VSys Security normally gives you access to specific setup tools, e.g. "Skills" and "Job preferences". For more complex organizational structures where you'd like to restrict access to individual items within a setup tool, use ownership tags.
Ownership tags can be applied to many different objects, and for a user to have the rights to edit an object, for example a skill, she must both have setup rights to the tool and rights to at least one ownership tag associated with that skill.
Ownership tag rules
An object with no ownership tags can be edited by any user with access to the appropriate tool, for example "Skills".
If an object has two or more ownership tags, a user's rights are the sum of her rights to the assigned tags. For example a news item with the ownership tags "Department 1" and "Department 2". A user having "View" rights to "Department 1" and "Edit" rights to "Department 2" would be able to edit that news item.
Where a user creates a new object with ownership tags that would not allow the user to edit the object, the user still has full rights to that object until the object is saved for the first time. This lets the user correct her settings or delete the object without having to get an administrator's help. As soon as the object is saved, ownership tag rules apply.
