VSys Live Kiosk Site

VSys Live Kiosk is just another VSys Live site, though its settings are a trimmed-down version of those for a standard site.

You'll notice that many of the VSys Live site settings are missing as they're not relevant here. In their place there is the Kiosk settings panel which has VSys Live Kiosk-specific settings.

Creating a kiosk site from the built-in template will create a site with these settings and pages already in place.

Allow login via swipe/scan value

If you have a barcode or magnetic stripe reader on the device running the VSys Live Kiosk, and if this is checked, then a value entered in the PIN field will also be checked against the swipe/scan values for volunteers.

Require authentication to open kiosk site

If you make the VSys Live Kiosk visible on your public WiFi or other accessible networks, you can check this box to define one or more login ID/password pairs that must be used when starting the VSys Live Kiosk in a browser.

Note that the user IDs and passwords defined here are added into the VSys Live Kiosk site when it's installed, and they're not updated until the site is re-installed.

Login page

Required; it should be a page with the "Kiosk Login" block in the "Content main" region.

Messages page

Required; it should be a page with the "Kiosk Messages" block in the "Content main" region.

Check in page

Required; it should be a page with the "Kiosk Check In" block in the "Content main" region.

Check out page

Required; it should be a page with the "Kiosk Check Out" block in the "Content main" region.

Agreements page

This is the only optional page: it's not needed if you don't use agreements in VSys Live. If this page is present, it should be a page with the "Kiosk Agreements" block placed in the "Content main" region.

Default inactivity timeout

After this many seconds, if the user hasn't done anything, the kiosk will return to the login page.

Remove hyperlinks from news and messages

Checking this makes any hyperlinks present in messages and new items inactive, preventing them from taking the user away from the VSys Live Kiosk site.

Show messages as HTML with images

If checked, VSys will try to render volunteer messages with images included in them.

Don't show new messages immediately at login

The kiosk will normally show new messages to the volunteer after logging in. Checking this box prevents that.

Maximum messages to show at login

When showing messages after logging in, no more than this many will be displayed.

Don't show messages older than

When showing messages after logging in, messages older than this many days will not be displayed.

Prevent [Cancel check-in] after check-in

If checked, after the set number of minutes has elapsed after checking in, the kiosk will no longer display the Cancel check-in button.

VSys Live Kiosk authentication

If you've checked Require authentication to open kiosk site, a browser trying to open the VSys Live Kiosk will need to enter a user ID/password. Once those have been accepted, the kiosk will work on that browser and be available to eligible volunteers. This setting is used primarily when the VSys Live Kiosk is publicly facing, that is, visible on the public Internet.

Ensure that you always access the VSys Live Kiosk using secure (SSL/TLS, https://) connections when the VSys Live Kiosk is on the public Internet.

Note that any authentication settings, including defined user IDs and passwords, only take effect after VSys Live is re-installed. (The password files are written into the Apache setup, and linked into the site's .conf file, only on the actual server running VSys Live Kiosk.)

Other pages and blocks

Where this setup describes a typical VSys Live Kiosk site, most VSys Live blocks can be placed on the kiosk site as well. For example you could include a dynamic banner on the login page, or a news listing or calendar. They'll work just as they do on a regular VSys Live site.
