Does the database reside on your server or ours, and who is responsible for maintaining it?
That depends: VSys can be self-hosted (your servers, your control) or hosted (cloud-based). Assuming that you're hosting VSys yourself, the standard model:
Your primary database sits on your server, in your IT department, and no outside access is ever made to that data by us or our programs.
If you use VSys Web to allow your volunteers to sign up online, see and enter hours, and check their assignments and messages, a small set of that data sits on our server for that purpose (see How does VSys Web work?).
With VSys Live all of your data lives on your IT department's servers, since VSys Live is hosted within your local network.
If Bespoke is hosting VSys for you, everything resides on our servers. With that every customer gets their own secure virtual server and own SQL Server database that is never shared with any other customers.
