Some panels have many choices. Sometimes these are menu choices and sometimes they are results from searches. If there are five or more options on the list you will see a little funnel at the top right. 
Clicking on this funnel will bring up a search box. This search box looks for all instances of the letters you enter. For example, entering "eve" brings up Evelyn, Acevedo and Steven.
